Entertainer's Eulogy Synopsis

In 1918, a street performer mesmerizes the crowd and a minstrel act is born. In 1976, a soul singer signs a three album record contract that will make him a star. In 1989, a boxer fights the bout that will determine his destiny as champ or contender. This is the story of Entertainer's Eulogy, a theatrical requiem, chronicling the rise and fall of the African American entertainer. A cautionary tale on the price of fame and showbiz, and the people whose lives are forever changed by it.

Production History

Enertainer's Eulogy has had workshops and readings at the Real Theatre Works: Fresh Voices Festival, New Perspectives Theatre: Voices from the Edge Festival, Lark Play Development Center, Classical Theatre of Harlem's Future Classic Series , and the Roundabout Theatre Company. It had it's world premiere at the Playhouse on the Square's Solo Works Series in Memphis, TN. A west coast premiere at the Whitefire Solo Festival in Los Angeles, CA, a limited engagement at the Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca, NY as apart of the Counter Culture Series, and a one night only performance for the United Solo Festival on Theatre Row in NYC.

"The audience aches for these tragic personalities, wishing they could see themselves as we see them."
